Mark Giampapa

A recipient of the George Van Biesbroeck award in recognition of his observational and theoretical studies of the stars and Sun, Dr. Giampapa has published about 150 research papers on investigations of the origin and nature of stellar magnetism and the variability of the Sun as a star. He has supervised in research a number of undergraduate and graduate students who are now leaders in research in stellar astrophysics. Mark Giampapa currently serves as Deputy Director for the National Solar Observatory and is an adjunct astronomer in Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona.
