Betsy Woodhouse

Betsy is the associate director of AIR, overseeing operations and the management of staff, programs, and finances. She assists in implementing the Water, Environmental, and Energy Solutions initiative and other interdisciplinary, cross-campus funding programs. Betsy came to AIR following a brief period as the program manager of the University of Arizona’s Earth Dynamics Observatory; prior to that she was the deputy director of the Institute of the Environment, a precursor to AIR. 

With graduate education in hydrology and geology, Betsy has worked for private environmental consultants and the U.S. Geological Survey. She was the co-founder of Southwest Hydrology, a trade magazine for water professionals in the Southwest, where she was the publisher, editor, and marketing manager for ten years, selling the enterprise to the Arizona Board of Regents along the way. She continued her work in environmental communications upon joining the Institute of the Environment, assisting in the publishing and editing of a book series before transitioning more fully into management.
