Sara Fraker

Sara Fraker's research interests include intersections of music and ecology, the commissioning of new works, and imaginative chamber music programming. She collaborated with plant ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer and composer Asha Srinivasan to commission "Braiding," a new piece for oboe, electronics and natural sounds. Her current collaboration with the LTRR, "Performing Dendrochronology," will integrate music, visual art, and tree ring data. Fraker is principal oboist of True Concord Voices & Orchestra and second oboist of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. She spends her summers as a faculty artist at the Bay View Music Festival in northern Michigan. She has presented recitals and masterclasses across the United States and in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia and the Tohono O’odham Nation. Fraker's debut solo album, Botanica, was released in 2019. She earned degrees from Swarthmore College (BA), New England Conservatory (MM), and the University of Illinois (DMA).
